Whittier Intermediate School

As one of the oldest schools in the district, built in 1925, Whittier Intermediate School stands with a rich history and unique presence. Located on the corner of Maple Avenue and Vermont Street in Blue Island, Whittier serves 4th and 5th grade students with a variety of programs. We strive to provide the appropriate support for our students during their two year stay at Whittier and our staff is fully committed to ensure that every student’s educational needs are met.

Students at Whittier Intermediate School have access to programs such as:

  • Gifted Cluster
  • Bilingual Program
  • Dual Language Program
  • D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)
  • Band
  • Girls on the Run
  • Book Clubs
  • Morning News Broadcasters
  • Student Council
  • Art and Music Enrichment

We also are very conscious of the importance of developing responsible and respectful young men and women in our school as we continue with our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program. Students learn to be safe, respectful and responsible throughout the day and within every area of the school as these are character traits we want to instill in our students for them to keep as they mature into adulthood.

We are very focused and determined to make Whittier Intermediate a more successful and accomplished school!
